Re: Water Restrictions

In an order dated May 23 of 2008, in response to severe drought across the state, the North Carolina Utilities Commission issued a drought restrictions policy for all investor and privately owned public water utilities under its jurisdiction in the state.  This order implemented a system of restrictions based on the severity of the county drought as identified by the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council (www.ncdrought.org).  This drought status is updated weekly and the severity of the drought dictates the severity of the restrictions.

As of July 6th, 2010, Iredell County is in “DO – Abnormally Dry” status.  Based on this classification, mandatory restrictions are in place as follows;

D0 Abnormally Dry
Mandatory odd-even spray irrigation three days per week:

Odd addresses:

Tuesday 10 p.m. to Wednesday 4 a.m.

Thursday 10 p.m. to Friday 4 a.m.

Saturday 10 p.m. to Sunday 4 a.m.

Even addresses:

Wednesday 10 p.m. to Thursday 4 a.m.

Friday 10 p.m. to Saturday 4 a.m.

Sunday 10 p.m. to Monday 4 a.m.

Handheld use of a container or hose to water flowers, shrubs, trees, and vegetable gardens is allowable at anytime.
Car washing is allowable at anytime.

Filling of swimming pools or topping-off pools is allowable at anytime.

We are seeing very heavy demand of the water utility system which serves your home in this unusually hot weather and have noticed that many are irrigating outside of permitted times.  We must ask for your attention to this situation and your compliance with the restrictions to ensure that the system performs as intended.  Failure to cooperate may result in enforcement actions against violators and possible additional restrictions on the entire water system.

Because of the frequency that the county drought classification is updated, it is the responsibility of the customers to keep informed of the current weekly status by checking the Drought Management Advisory Council website referenced above and the Utilities Commission’s website at www.ncuc.commerce.state.nc.us (and clicking on the “Drought – Non-Essential Water Usage Restrictions” link on the right margin) - or by calling our Customer Service Office at 704-525-7990 if you do not have internet access.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Thank you
